Maarten Stekelenburg joined the Ajax youth academy at age 13. He made his debut for Ajax 1 on 11 August 2002 in the match Ajax - PSV (3-1). This also gave him his first Johan Cruijff Shield. The goalkeeper has played 162 matches in the first team. Stekelenburg has won two Dutch titles with Ajax, three Dutch FA Cups and four times the Johan Cruijff Shield. Stekelenburg has earned 10 caps for Holland.

,,This feels like the right choice for me'', says Stekelenburg about his decision. ,,It feels good to commit to the club for a longer period and I think we can achieve a lot in the future.''

Technical director Martin van Geel adds: ,,Maarten is an excellent goalkeeper and he has shown remarkable progress the past years. He is only just 25 and his best is still to come. That is why we are very happy that he has chosen to remain Ajax's goalkeeper. Maarten is one of the guys in the current squad of whom we find it very important for the next seasons that they stay with the club.”
