Ajax showed little mercy with weak Feyenoord on Sunday and booked a deserved 4-0 win in Rotterdam. The team has taken a step forward in professionalism, according to coach Henk ten Cate.
,,I am proud of and happy with my team, that's logical when you win 0-4 in Rotterdam’’, said coach Henk ten Cate. ,,I am especially proud of the way we stayed in the game after Jaap Stam went off. This team has taken a step forward in professionalism today.'' Captain Jaap Stam had to be taken off after only 25 minutes with an ankle injury. George Ogararu replaced him and Zdenek Grygera went to the centre of defence.
,,Our tactic worked'', said Ten Cate, who named Perez and Grygera as two of the most valuable players. ,,Perez played more as a right midfielder, to lure a central defender of Feyenoord away from the middle. And Zdenek was one of the best out there today.''
After halftime, the decision came quickly. Now it was Perez who scored twice. Huntelaar was brought down and the Dane scored from the penalty spot. Not much later Perez put in the rebound after Feyenoord's goalkeeper Timmer had stopped another effort by Huntelaar.
Feyenoord were powerless and the frustration started showing in the many fouls that were committed on the Ajax players. The low point was a red card for Pierre van Hooijdonk, who fouled Urby Emanuelson. Later Sebastian Pardo was also sent off, after two quick yellow cards.
Feyenoord never had a chance and Ajax could have gotten an ever better result if the team had converted more of the many chances.
