Ajax Cape Town signalled their intentions as serious title contenders when they scored a convincing 4-0 victory over Premier Soccer League new-comers Silver Stars at the Newlands Stadium on Wednesday evening.
With Chiefs losing 1-0 to SuperSport United at Ellis Park, the result sees the Cape team going back to the top of the table.
Ajax kept their best soccer for the second half, only managing to score once in the first period.
The goal came from Ajax's Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) defender Cyrille Mubiala in the 12th minute, when he did well to guide Brett Evans' free-kick into the goal.
The visitors had a good chance to level matters in the 32nd minute, but home keeper Moeneeb Josephs was on hand to stop Jokhonia Cibi's back-heeled effort.
The small band of loyal Ajax supporters were made to wait until the 70th minute before their team scored again - Mubiala's DRC team-mate Mulekelayi Kanku doing the business this time around after he did well to run onto a through ball and beat keeper Johannes Diale.
Urban Warrior's left-back Brett Evans then made sure of the result with a well struck free-kick in the 81st minute to increase his side's lead to three.
Dillon Sheppard then rubbed salt into the wounds of Stars with a well taken goal in the 83rd minute.
The result sends the Polekwane team into the relegation zone after failing to win any PSL matches this season, though ironically they are flying high in the Coca-Cola Cup, having just reached the semi-final stage after beating Moroka Swallows.
