Wamberto from Ajax to Bergen

Ajax and Belgian premier league side Bergen have reached agreement about the transfer of Wamberto. The Brazilian forward leaves immediately for the current number 15 in the Belgian league table. As usual, Ajax do not disclose financial details of the agrement.

Wamberto de Jesus Sousa Campos, lovingly called ‘Wampie’ by the Ajax supporters, came to Ajax via Seraing and Standard Luik in 1998. In five seasons in Amsterdam Wamberto won the national championship (2002), two Amstel Cups (1999 and 2002), the Johan Cruijff Shield (2002) and three consecutive times the prestigious Amsterdam Tournament (2001, 2002 and 2003) with Ajax.

He also added a national title (2001) and the Amstel Malt Cup (2003) with Ajax 2 to his palmares.

Since his debut against PSV on 16 August 1998, Wamberto played 122 league matches, in which he scored 26 times. His 156 official matches for Ajax (36 goals) also include 9 cup matches (7 goals) and 22 European cup matches (3 goals).
