Jaap Stam and Andries Ulderink have been appointed as coaches for the Ajax Reserves. Both will sign a new contract which takes effect on July 1, 2014, and lasts for two years, until June 30, 2016.
Stam (Kampen July 17, 1972) worked at Ajax last season as an assistant and defensive coach, coaching both youth, reserves and the first team. Ulderink (Zwolle, June 30, 1969) has been working for Ajax’s scouting department since February 1, 2013. Previously, he’s coached Go Ahead Eagles, De Graafschap and AGOVV, among others.
Stam and Ulderink will be jointly responsible for the reserves team. Alfons Groenendijk’s successors see this as a good challenge. Stam: “It’s nice that Andries and I can start with the Ajax Reserves together. I’m certainly looking forward to joining forces with him and making it a great period of time. We’re working with very talented guys, and it’s our job to give these players extra ammunition and help them perform well in the Jupiler League.”
Ulderink: “It’s amazing that this opportunity arose, and I’m grabbing it with both hands. Honestly, I was getting a bit anxious with the training profession. Now I can develop myself more as a coach. Being the coach of a team like the Ajax Reserves demands a different approach. The process of dealing with up and coming talents, and the disappointment of players returning from the first team is a great challenge. I’m also looking forward to working with a team player such as Jaap Stam, and hopefully begin a very productive phase.”
