Sonck scores against Holland

Wesley Sonck, the Belgian Ajax striker, scored his country's only goal in the international friendly against Holland (1-1). Elsewhere, brand-new Ajax player Nicolae Mitea made his debut for Romania.

Wesley Sonck scored the first goal in the match Belgium - Holland in Brussels. Roy Makaay equalised in the second half. Ajax defender Jelle van Damme made his debut in the starting line-up of Belgium. Recent signee Tom Soetaers also saw some action for the home side. For Holland, Rafael van der Vaart played as one of the two strikers, in the first half with Ruud van Nistelrooy, in the second with Makaay. Van der Vaart came close to scoring with a shot from distance in the first half. Wesley Sneijder was kept on Holland's bench for the entire time.

Nicolae Mitea made his debut for Romania in his country's 2-0 win over Ukraine. Chelsea's Mutu scored both the goals. Mitea replaced him near the end of the match. Ajax goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont did not play. Stelea was given the job.

Denmark and Finland drew level: 1-1. Petri Pasanen and Jari Litmanen were absent with injuries, but a former Ajax player was important. Jesper Gronkjaer made it 1-0 to Denmark. Aki Riihilahti tied it for Finland.

Hatem Trabelsi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not play in respectively Tunisia - Guinea and Sweden - Greece (1-2) due to injuries.
