Rainy welcome for Van ?t Schip

The rain was pouring down when Johnny van ?t Schip came onto the pitch for his first training as coach of Ajax 2. First he was greeted by the players of Ajax 1 and he had a little talk with Ronald Koeman. Then the former Ajax-great started his training.

Van ‘t Schip replaces Gerard van der Lem as the coach of Ajax 2. Van der Lem left for Saudi Arabia, where he becomes the technical director for the national squad. Van ‘t Schip left FC Twente after a few weeks of preparation. ,,I was happy that Ajax asked me, because all the positions had been filled at the start of the season. It feels good to be back’’, said the former right winger of Ajax, Genoa and the Dutch national squad.

At his first training van ‘t Schip only had four players, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Jussi Kujala, Kiran Bechan and Jose Valencia. The players practised passing and crossing the ball, and finishing. Van ‘t Schip was on goal for most of the time. ,,This was not a bad training’’, said the coach afterwards. ,,Some of these guys play on the wing. But in the long run this won’t work. If we have ten or eleven players it is fine. With this few, we have to try and combine the training with the juniors occasionaly.’’
