Rafael van der Vaart out for five more weeks

Rafael van der Vaart will be out of action for five more weeks. The talented midfielder has a hairline fracture in his upper thigh bone.

Van der Vaart sustained an injury in the away match against De Graafschap on December 7. Then a slight muscle tear in his upper leg was found. An MRI scan was made last Monday due repeated complaints during the winter break. The scan showed a hairline fracture in the left upper leg.

Van der Vaart will go on training camp to Portugal with Ajax. Ronald Koeman's squad will stay in Faro for more than a week and will play test matches against VfL Wolfsburg (January 15) en Aberdeen (January 18). After that Ajax fly to Egypt for a friendly against Al-Ahly on January 24.

Injured players John O’Brien (left Achilles tendon), Johnny Heitinga (left knee), Maarten Stekelenburg (wrist) en Victor Sikora (right knee) will not travel with Ajax to the training camp.
