Pace maker for Van der Lem

Former Ajax coach Gerard van der Lem has undergone surgery in the hospital of Kuwait City. The national team coach of Saudi Arabia received a pace maker. The 50-year old coach is doing well. He has to stay in the hospital for two more days, and will probably then travel to Holland with his wife. Van der Lem was the coach of Ajax 2 until October, when he left for Saudi Arabia.

Van der Lem fainted last Friday when coaching his team in the Arabic championship in Kuwait. he was replaced by his assistant Martin Koopman. ,,Gerard fainted because of an oxygen deficiency. The pace maker has to prevent that problem in the future'', Koopman said.

Without Van der Lem Saudi Arabia won the title by beating Bahrein in the final (1-0). It caused a national celebration.
