Official: Amsterdam ArenA becomes Johan Cruijff ArenA

The Amsterdam Arena will officially change its name to Johan Cruijff ArenA at the start of the 2018-2019 season. The new logo of the Johan Cruijff ArenA will be revealed around April 25, the day that would have been the 71st birthday of the greatest Ajacied of all time.

Edwin van der Sar: ,,Johan Cruijff is the greatest footballer in the history of Ajax. He has helped Ajax become a big name both nationally and internationally. Wonderful to have the stadium named after him.”

Reactions Cruijff family
,,We are happy with this news, and that the moment the stadium will officially become the Johan Cruijjf ArenA really has arrived”, the family says in the press release from the Amsterdam Arena.

Legendary Number 14
Johan Cruijff was one of the best football players of all time and by far the most famous Ajacied in the world. As a player he guided Ajax to win - among other trophies - 3 Europa Cup I titles, a World Cup and 8 national league titles. As manager, Cruijff won the Europa Cup II (1987) and two national cup titles with Ajax. As a tribute to his legacy, no player of Ajax has worn his legendary number 14 for over 10 years. Johan Cruijff passed away on March 24, 2016.
