Preparations for the new football seasons start up again on Monday. Most players will report back to the team on Monday, and the first practice is scheduled for the following day. On Wednesday afternoon (2.30p.m.), the first public training takes place at de Toekomst. Ajax plays its first practice match on Saturday, against SV Huizen.
Most players will report to de Toekomst on Monday for an evaluation meeting, during which their physical condition will be checked. The Ajax players who don’t need to report to the team on Monday are Ricardo van Rhijn, Daley Blind, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen (they are expected back on July 2), Lasse Schöne and Gregory van der Wiel (July 16) and Christian Eriksen, who is on holidays until July 23.
The first public training is scheduled for Wednesday. That afternoon, the Ajax players will wear the new home kit for the first time.
After four days of practice, Ajax will kick off in Huizen, facing off against local team SV Huizen. On Monday, July 2, the selection leaves for its annual training camp in De Lutte, where they continue to train rigorously. On Wednesday, July 4, Ajax faces its sparring partner, VV Oldenzaal. The third practice match is in Emmen, after which the players and staff return to Amsterdam.
The following week, Ajax will travel to Buitenpost to practice against Venendam (July 11), and then to Noordwijk (July 14). The first practice match taking place in Amsterdam is scheduled on Saturday, July 21. The Scottish top club Celtic will be the visiting team in the ArenA.
Coach Frank de Boer and his team leave for England a few days later, where they will play two practice matches – one against Southampon (July 28) and Norwich City (July 31). The day after that match, Ajax will hold its Open Day in and around the ArenA. Check the website for more information around the program.
On Sunday, August 5, Ajax’s season officially starts with the match for the Johan Cruijff Plate against PSV. That match begins at 6p.m.
