New deals for Wesley Sneijder and Johnny Heitinga

Ajax have entered into improved contracts with Wesley Sneijder and Johnny Heitinga. Both have committed to Ajax to 1 July 2007. As usual, Ajax do not disclose financial details of the agreements.

Ajax have re-appraised Wesley Sneijder's contract, starting 1 January 2004. The new deal has the same running time as the current contract but the conditions have been improved.

In the case of Johnny Heitinga, Ajax have picked up the option in the contract and extended it to the summer of 2007. Heitinga can also count on improved conditions with his new contract per 1 January 2004.

Wesley Sneijder came to Ajax from DOS and completed the youth development program of Ajax. He made his debut for Ajax 1 in the away match against Willem II (6-0 to Ajax) on 2 February 2003. He has now played 27 league matches with 8 goals. Sneijder has played 40 official matches for Ajax 1. He has scored 10 goals in those 40 matches.

As a player of Ajax 2, Sneijder won two national championships: in 2001 and 2002. He also won the national cup for second teams, the Amstel Malt Cup. As a player of the A-juniors of Ajax, Sneijder won the national title in 2002. For his performance in the juniors he was awarded the title 'Player of the Year'.

In the beginning of this year, Sneijder made a very speedy breakthrough. He was promoted to Ajax's first team and he was picked for the national team of Holland. He made his debut for Holland against Portugal on 30 April and recently earned his third cap against Scotland (6-0 to Holland). Sneijder also played 25 matches as a youth international.

Johnny Heitinga also successfully completed the youth development program of Ajax. Heitinga made his debut for Ajax's first team in the away match against Feyenoord (2-1 to Ajax) on 26 August 2001. Two serious knee injuries have limited him to only 21 matches in the Holland Casino Eredivisie, in which he scored 1 goal. Heitinga has played 28 official matches for Ajax.

Johnny Heitinga won the national title and the Amstel Cup with Ajax in 2002. In 2001 and 2002 he captured the championship with Ajax 2. He earned 36 caps as a youth international.
