Musampa: 'Fortunately, it’s still in our hands'

Nordin Musampa tried to look on the bright side after the loss to Sporting CP (0-2) op the opening day of the ABN AMRO Future Cup.  “This was a very educational game”, said the young defender maturely, when it could have been easier to go the other way.  “Fortunately, it’s still in our hands.”

The Ajax U17 started the Future Cup on a good note by defeating Sydney FC (2-0), but subsequently, lost to Sporting by the same margin.  Musampa saw a clear difference between the two teams.  “I thought Sporting was stronger.  They had speed, agile players, and were physically strong.”

Big surprise
A crucial moment in the game occurred in the 21st minute.  Referee Van der Laan gave Ki-Jana Hoever a yellow card at first, but after consulting the video red, changed his decision to a red card.  This was a surprise for Musampa.  “I really didn’t know what we were waiting for.  Until I saw Ki-Jana get a red card.  I wasn’t even aware of what was going on.”

After that, Sporting took a quick 2-0 lead, and never let it go, despite coach Dave Vos making several changes.  “After that red card, we weren’t managing very well with 4-3-2.  After that, we switched to a 4-4-1 setup and that was better.  We got a few more opportunities then”, concluded Musampa.

The Ajax U17s can avenge this loss tomorrow, in the last pool game against PSG.  The game starts at 12:30.
