Mido has been elected African talent of the year 2002 in a ceremony in South-Africa on Tuesday. Steven Pienaar (South-Africa and Ajax) was also nominated in that category and finished as the runner-up. Egyptian Mido, hired out to Celta de Vigo, was also nominated for 'African footballer of the year', but that award went to Hadji Diouf from Senegal.
For the title African footballer of the year Pape Bouba Diop was also nominated.
Diouf, who plays for Liverpool, received the award for the second year in a row.
The third African nominated for Talent of the year was Kolo Toure, but the player of Arsenal and Ivory Coast finished third behind both Ajax players.
