Holland - Czech Republic

Holland's coach Dick Advocaat was happy with his team's performance, but not with the result against the Czech Republic (1-1). A win would have put Holland in a good position for qualifying for Euro 2004 in Portugal.

Holland and the Czech Republic now each have seven points after three matches to share the lead in the group. Holland face Moldova on Wednesday while the Czechs meet Austria.

Advocaat thought his team played very well, especially in the first half. ,,We controlled the match, kept it closed at the back and created a handful of chances.''

Ajax's Rafael van der Vaart broke the deadlock. He played well as a substitute and helped create, together with Edgar Davids, the opening goal by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The Czech Republic, with Ajax midfieldfer Tomas Galasek, came on stronger in the second half, but it did not lead to many scoring opportunities. Koller's equaliser came out of nowhere. ,,It was unnecessary'', Advocaat thought. Setbacks for Holland were injuries for Jaap Stam (hamstring) and Giovanni van Bronckorst (sprained ankle). They are doubtful for the match against Moldova.
