Lack of scoring power hurts Ajax

Ajax created many chances against Heracles Almelo, but to no avail. The visitors from Almelo celebrated the 0-0 draw as a victory. ,,Dropping four points against ADO Den Haag and Heracles, that's unacceptable", said a disappointed Danny Blind.

,,In the end, you can analyse our game all you want, but with the chances we had, we should have won this match'', Blind said.
Ajax started strongly against Heracles, but scoring opportunities for, amongst others, Wesley Sneijder, Nourdin Boukhari and Markus Rosenberg were not converted.
,,If you miss so many chances, it hurts your confidence.''
Nigel de Jong was the Ajax player who created the most danger after halftime, when the midfielder played like an added striker. Twice the Holland player was eye to eye with goalkeeper Pieckenhagen, but De Jong also couldn't put it away.
A double substitution by Blind brought no change. Yannis Anastasiou and Ryan Babel came on for Markus Rosenberg and Nourdin Boukhari. Ryan Babel was a bit more dangerous from the left wing than Boukhari and saw one of his attempts end up in the side netting. But Yannis Anastasiou had the greatest chance to break the spell. Five minutes before the end, the Greek striker could have won the match when he had a free header after a fine cross by Wesley Sneijder. But he just missed the mark. ,,Yannis received a good pass, was in the five-meter area but missed his specialty’’, Blind looked back in disbelief.
Only the return of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who kept a clean sheet, was a positive point on an otherwise disappointing evening.
