Koeman inspects training grounds

Coach Ronald Koeman made an inspection of Ajax's training grounds on Tuesday. The first training after the winter break takes place on Wednesday. But because of the cold weather of the past days, the coach already checked the grass, accompanied by Bob Haarms and team manager David Endt.

The heating installation under the training pitches is on, according to 'pitch master' Bobby Haarms. However, Koeman found some hard patches and the pitch is not soft enough everywhere for training on it yet.

Mido will have to miss the first training. The Egyptian striker has to deal with some paper formalities, which could not be handled before due to holidays in Egypt. With new players Stefano Seedorf and Wesley Sneijder Ajax start the preparation for the second half of the season on Wednesday. If Ajax is not able to train on the grounds next to the Arena, the team will practice on the artificial turf pitch at Ajax's youth complex 'de Toekomst'.

On January 15, the squad will fly to Portugal for a nine-day training camp. In Portugal, Ajax will play at least two matches, against German side Wolfsburg and Scottish side Aberdeen. The team will then travel to Egypt, for a match against Al-Ahly in Cairo on January 24th. The match will be a demonstration and serves as an opening of the Meridian Cup, a UEFA youth tournament with teams from Africa and Europe.
