Kinsbergen: ‘Framework is rock-solid’

Now that most of the players and members of the technical staff are enjoying their well-earned holiday, hard work is being done behind the scenes. General Manager Michael Kinsbergen expands.

In an interview with Frank de Boer from May 31st, the coach succinctly summarized where most of the Ajax players are right now. “The battle has been fought, and the prizes won. Ajax is the champion and is already preparing for the new season, in vacation mode.”
General Manager Michael Kinsbergen reiterates this: “The players and technical staff have performed very well and are currently enjoying their holidays. Actually not all players are, because we have a significant number of internationals who are still active. And the Ajax people at the office are still working very hard.”

What kind of work is being done?
“The Supporter Affairs department is working to make sure that our supporters will be able to comfortably take their places in the stadium. Organizing season tickets is more work than most people think. And, on July 1, we have the year-end closing of the books and budgets for the upcoming year need to be locked down. It’s therefore an especially busy time for our financial department. And there are several more examples.”

And what about the Toekomst?
“Our youth teams are closing the season this week, and the last trainings are on the agenda. It’s great news that we’ve adjusted Wim Jonk and Dennis Bergkamp’s running contracts. We’ve made so much progress in the course we’ve set for Ajax. They’ve played a critical role in that.”

What are, according to you, some more important items?
“The technical Heart is the most important organ within our club. That’s where the policies are decided for the most important thing, the football. Some great steps have been taken in the past few weeks. We’ve recently released the names of all of the youth coaches for the new season. And it was obviously great to reach agreements with Frank de Boer and Marc Overmars to extend their contracts. Coupled with Dennis and Wim’s renewed contracts, our football organization’s framework will be rock-solid for the next few years.”

The club is now quiet, most players are enjoying their holidays now, but the people behind the scenes are still working hard?
“That’s a good summary, yes. Our colleagues at the office are playing an important role in leading up to next season. They’re all working towards one goal, and that is, together with the selection and technical staff, to make it another great year.”
