Igesund On Target For Ajax

Gordon Igesund's charges are becoming familiar with being number one as they beat Black Leopards 1-0 at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night to go top of the Castle Premiership log for the second time this week two points ahead of title favourites Kaizer Chiefs.

Grant Igesund scored the all-important winner for the Urban Warriors which gave the home team a much-needed three points which puts them two points above title favourites Kaizer Chiefs.

Black Leopards were not in awe of the Cape glamour team nor their supporters who came out in full flight despite the windy conditions at Ajax's new home venue. The visitors took the game to their hosts from the first blow of the whistle.

Wonder Nhleko and Mulondo Sikhwivhilu came close to opening the scoring early in the first half but poor finishing prevailed and the visitors were unable to break the deadlock.

Neither team could find a easy passage to goal and the first half ended 0-0.

After the break the home team went forward in numbers to get the winner and the three points to top the Premiership chart.

In the 75th minute Igesund blasted the ball home after the visitors defence could not clear the danger after a corner was taken. This was the striker's third goal in two games, earlier this week he scored a brace against Wits University.

There was no reply from the Leopards who tried to claw their way back but they stay on 17 points after 15 games and remain in position eight while the Cape team moved into first place for the second time this week.
