Eriksen opens Cruyff Court in Middelfart

Christian Eriksen opened the Christian Eriksen Cruyff Court in Middelfart, Denmark. The Ajax player received this honour after being selected as Talent of the Year after the 2010-2011 season. Eriksen’s prize consisted of a trophy and establishing a Cruyff Court at a location of his choice. The Bronze Boot winner chose his hometown.

Ajax’s midfielder took his first football steps at the local Middelfart Sanderum club. “The field gives kids from the neighborhood the chance to play football at a good location”, says Eriksen proudly. “The field has great surroundings. My parents and friends have been keeping me informed on its progress. It looks great. This is a unique place for the youth of Middelfart to play sports. As a child, I used to play football on the street and I wanted to give something back to the town, the kids, and the club where it all began for me.”
Eriksen’s talent was quickly noticed by Odense BK, the club where the received the first part of his (semi) professional football education. After the official opening of his field on Sunday, Eriksen gave the starting shot of the opening tournament. Kids from the neighborhood took part in the tournament. Naturally, the Ajax player also kicked a ball around with them. The Eriksen Cruyff Court will mainly be used by several schools, the local football club, plus an organization for kids with disabilities.
