Daley Blind on loan to FC Groningen

Ajax and FC Groningen have reached an agreement to loan out Daley Blind. The deal is effective immediately, and runs until June 30, 2010. The defensive midfielder is under contract with Ajax until June 30, 2013.

“I’ve been with Ajax since I was seven years old, so I’m a real Ajax player”, says Blind. “That’s why I would have preferred to be a starting player on Ajax’s first team. Unfortunately, the coach chooses other players for the positions that I could play. Until a few months ago, I couldn’t have imagined playing with any team in the Netherlands besides Ajax, but this step is good for my development.”

The loan period is effective immediately and continues until June 30, 2010. “FC Groningen is a good club. They have a good stadium, and a big, loyal group of supporters. Groningen seems like a pleasant city to live in. I think it’s a good decision to loan me out to FC Groningen. It’s up to me now to show that I can play at the Eredivisie level.”

Blind, born on March 9, 1990 in Amsterdam, comes from Ajax’s youth development programme. He made his competition debut on December 7, 2008, FC Volendam-Ajax (1-2). He has played 5 competition matches and 1 UEFA Cup match with Ajax’s first team.
