Board of Governors AFC Ajax appointed

In a special meeting of share holders, Uri Coronel (chairman), Joop Krant and Cor van Eijden have been appointed to the Board of Governors of AFC Ajax.

During a meeting of the Members' Council on 17 April last, Coronel (61), Krant (60) and Van Eijden (58) were voted the new supervisory directors of the club.

The new Board of Governors:

Uri Coronel is an honorary member of Ajax. Hij was on the board of the club from 1989 to 1997, being responsible for commercial matters. He was on the Members' Council to the end of 2007. Coronel had a big part in the plans for the building of and the move to the Amsterdam ArenA. He was also the chairman of the governing board of Alexander & Alexander Holding PLC and vice-chairman of Aon Group Netherlands. Now retired, Coronel is chairman of VNO-NCW Amsterdam and Noord-Holland and board member of the Fund Handicapped Sports. He is also active as chairman of the steering committee Masterplan Natura Artis Magistra, amongst others to help realise the expansion and renovation of the Artis zoo. Coronel was the chairman of the investigative committee that presented the report ‘Ajax, the way to win’ in February.

Cor van Eijden is the managing director of Globe Travel Company, part of OAD Travel. Van Eijden has been a member of Ajax since 1961 and he has been the chairman of the Members' Council since January of 2008. He played for Ajax as a youth player and later in several amateur teams in the seniors. He was also teammanager of the B-juniors of Ajax for 27 years. For several years he has been a coordinator in the youth department. In 2000 he was named member of merit of Ajax.

Joop Krant has been going to Ajax since the age of 7. His children's ticket became a contributor's card, which was later turned into a membership. Krant was also a member of the investigative committee that presented the report ‘Ajax, the way to win’ in February.
He worked for nearly 30 years at Kempen & Co. Currently, Krant is Managing Director of Catalyst Advisors PLC, where he can look at the ArenA from his office. He is also chairman of the board of the Jewish Historical Museum and supervisory director of Wereldhave Ltd.
