Blind manager technical affairs Ajax

Ajax have reached agreement with Sparta Rotterdam and Danny Blind about Blind rejoining Ajax. The current technical director of Sparta will start with Ajax as manager technical affairs on 15 May 2008.

Blind (46) takes over a number of duties from the recently departed Martin van Geel. He will oversee the youth department, the scouting and the transfers. With the appointment of Blind as manager technical affairs, Ajax further fill in the new organisation model in which Marco van Basten leads the whole technical organisation.

Blind signs a contract with the same end date as the coaching staff, 30 June 2012. Ajax and Blind share a long and successful history. The former captain played for Ajax for 13 seasons, winning many trophies. After his playing career he was also director players' policy, coach of the A1 juniors, head of youth department and head coach of the first team.

Marco van Basten: ,,I am very happy with the signing of Danny. With Martin van Geel's departure, many tasks would fall upon me. And I want to be able to focus on Ajax 1. It was necessary to add someone as soon as possible. These are important months for Ajax that will have an impact on the next seasons and I need to give my full attention to the Dutch national team now. With Danny we get someone who knows the ins and outs of this world and who adds quality to our team. I have much faith in him. We have discussed the division of our responsibilities and I am looking forward to our collaboration.”

Danny Blind: ,,There are two clubs that have played an important part in my life, Ajax and Sparta Rotterdam. When I signed as technical director of Sparta Rotterdam for 4 years, I fully intended to fullfill that contract. But we did put in some conditions that made it possible for me to go to Ajax when the situation would arise. I have worked with much pleasure for Sparta Rotterdam, but this offer of Ajax I simply cannot refuse.”
