Ajax won its first practice match 4-0 against vv Buitenpost on Saturday. Rodney Sneijder (2), Jan-Arie van der Heijden and Mats Rits scored the goals in the sold out De Swadde sport park in Friesland. Theo Janssen made his much awaited debut in Ajax’s jersey.
The Buitenpost amateurs succeeded in keeping a clean sheet for almost the entire first half. Rodney Sneijder broke the stalemate in Friesland one minute before the break. Ajax’s midfielder shot past keeper Albert Kobus, who had had a clean sheet up until that moment. A good show for the first class player, because it was really only a matter of time before the first goal was scored. After the first week of training, Lorenzo Ebecilio, Siem de Jong, and Aras Ozbiliz, acting as centre forward, all made attempts to score the first goal of the new season. Miralem Sulejmani had a good try in the fifth minute, but his shot hit the post.
The match in Buitenpost marked Theo Janssen’s much awaited debut in an Ajax jersey. Like fellow newcomers Derk Boerrigter and Mats Rits, he played one half of the game. The midfielder who transferred from FC Twente took all corner kicks during the first half. He had an opportunity to show off his specialty before halftime, but the first free kick ended up against the wall. Janssen’s first performance ended without a goal, but with an honourable mention in the history books of Buitenpost, where Ronald Koeman once made his debut with FC Barcelona.
Right after the break, Ajax doubled the score. Jan-Arie van der Heijden gave Ajax a 2-0 lead with a header. The midfielder reacted swiftly to a played out free kick from Sneijder. With an arc, he sent the ball into the Fries goal. This was a good boost for Van der Heijden, who has spent the last two seasons loaned out to Willem II.
It took until midway in the second half before the third goal came. Sneijder was the instigator of the goal for the third time. On a pass from Jody Lukoki, he shot Ajax’s third goal into the goal at close range. Fifteen minutes before time, Mats Rits brought the score to 4-0. On a pass from Derk Boerrigter, the 17 year old Belgian crowned his debut with a goal.
Ajax leaves on Monday for a six day training camp in De Lutte. On Wednesday, Frank de Boer’s team will play another practice match against amateurs in the east of Holland. First class team AZSV will be their opponents in Aalten. The De Lutte training camp will close with a practice match against FC Emmen in Drenthe on Saturday.
