The first league match for Ajax meant the first three points of the season. RBC was defeated 2-0 in Roosendaal. Steven Pienaar and Markusd Rosenberg scored.
Ajax had by far the most possession in the first half, but the team got no further than a shot on the post by Ryan Babel. The pace of the Amsterdam team was too low to find a gap in the defence of RBC Roosendaal.
At halftime, Danny Blind replaced Julien Escudé with Tomás Galásek and Hedwiges Maduro went back a line. Blind: ,,Escudé is a different kind of defender. I wanted more initiative from the last line. Maduro chooses better and more commanding moments to attack. We did not create enough in the first half. The pace of the ball was too low, you have to keep ball circulation high to create chances in the second half.''
Fifteen minutes into the second half Steven Pienaar gave his side the lead. Markus Rosenberg passed to the South African, who struck in the left corner. Rosenberg himself put the match on ice. Goalkeeper Hans Vonk quickly threw to Mauro Rosales, on for Babel, and the winger sent a deep pass to Hatem Trabelsi, who touched it to the on-rushing Rosenberg. He scored calmly.
,,We did not play well, but the most important thing is that we won our first league match. That gives us a good feeling for the upcoming week, when we play Brøndby and Feyenoord'', said Blind.
