Ajax win difficult ADO match

Ajax win difficult ADO match

Was it pure killer instinct or was there another explanation for the winning goal by Klaas Jan Huntelaar? The Ajax striker said after ADO Den Haag - Ajax (1-2): ,,I deliberately chose that corner. What preceeded it, I don't know. I went by my feeling on that shot.''

Whatever it was, Ajax again won important points with the 1-2 win in the Zuiderpark stadium. Coach Danny Blind's team went through some difficult times in The Hague. ,,Our best periods were fifteen minutes before and fifteen after halftime. The early stages clearly belonged to ADO'', said the Ajax boss.

After half an hour, Ajax started getting more grip on the match and created some chances. Olaf Lindenbergh's free kick was the foundation for the first goal. After almost everyone had missed the ball, Zdenek Grygera put it in the back of the net almost from the end line: 0-1.

Ajax were not given much time to enjoy their lead. Three minutes later former Ajax player Michael Mols fired from the edge of the box and produced the equaliser: 1-1.

When Ajax recovered after halftime, they regained the lead. Ten minutes into the second half, Huntelaar fired in the 1-2. ,,But the shot seemed easier than it actually was'', said the foward. The cross for Ajax's second goal was again provided by Lindenbergh.

ADO had to come forward to try and equalise again. That gave Ajax more room to play, but the team did not use the space well enough.

,,We could not decide the match'', said Blind. ,,In the closing stages, we even survived a very close call.'' Ajax's goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg proved his worth by saving an attempt by substitute Paulus Roiha.

The win against ADO meant the second victory in a row for Ajax, who steadily move up in the league table. Next Sunday, bottom-dwellers RBC Roosendaal come to the Amsterdam ArenA.
