Ajax supports Chinese national team

Head of youth training Jan Olde Riekerink will support the Chinese national team on behalf of Ajax from December 9 to 28. During this period the Chinese team will be preparing for the AFC Asian Cup 2011, which starts in January 2011 in Qatar.

In November 2009, Ajax signed a three year deal with the Chinese Football Association (CFA), and thus became the official partner for the CFA’s youth training program. As a result of Ajax’s role as the Chinese association’s official training partner, Olde Riekerink went to China in October to lead the Under 17 and Under 19 coaches. The Chinese national coach Gao Hongbo was also present. At the invitation of Wei Di, the Chinese football association’s top man, that visit will be followed up, with the Chinese national team being central this time.

“I am very honoured and pleased to be able to perform this duty for the Chinese national team. It’s a great challenge for me to share my experience, knowledge and insight with this ambitious national team. Football is the biggest sport in China, and with more than 1,4 billion inhabitants, this offers great potential”, said Olde Riekerink.
