Ajax supporters bid leaving players farewell; Talent and Player of the Year honoured

After the match against FC Groningen (2-0), Ajax and their supporters said goodbye to six players who are leaving the club after the season. The trophies for Talent of the Year and Best Player were also handed out.

Assistent coach Ruud Krol handed the Marco van Basten Trophy to two players: Thomas Vermaelen and Urby Emanuelson. ,,Two talents of which the club Ajax can be proud'', said Krol.

Then it was the turn of Ruud Geels, Ajax’s top goal scorer of yesteryear. He had the honour of handing out the Rinus Michels Trophy for Best Player of the season. It went to a player who has only been an Ajax player for four months.

From his renowned predecessor, Klaas Jan Huntelaar received the award. It made for a great photo opportunity: two super scorers in one picture. Huntelaar's goals proved to be crucial for Ajax in the past months.

Six players were given a festive send-off. Hatem Trabelsi, Yannis Anastasiou, Hans Vonk, Steven Pienaar, Juanfrán and Tomás Galásek received much praise for what they had done for the club in the past few seasons.

Tomás Galásek was given extra attention. Of the six, Galásek has meant most for the club. ,,An excellent captain and a sympathetic and modest Czech'', said Ajax speaker Floris Thoolen about Galasék after his last home match in Amsterdam.
