Ajax has signed Pelle Clement (Amsterdam, May 19, 1996). The Under 19 junior has been playing in Ajax’s youth academy since 2006. He signed a contract that goes into effect on July 1, 2015, for two years, until June 30, 2017.
It’s the winger’s first contract. Clement will join the Ajax Reserves selection next season.
Football affairs director Marc Overmars: “Pelle is a winger who’s developed well this year. He’s good in action and has good speed. Now a new part of his career is starting, and he’ll have the chance next year to show what he can do in the Jupiler League.”
With an ear-to-ear grin, Pelle Clement finished off the contract negotiations on Thursday afternoon. Nine years of hard work in the youth academy is bearing fruit. “Although I completely agree with Mr. Overmars that this is the start of something new, I also see it as an end of my youth academy time. It’s great that all of the sacrifices I’ve made for football haven’t been in vain.”
In the short term, the fast winger is aiming to win the championship with both A junior teams. His final goal is clear. “Make it to Ajax 1.” And maybe the juniors will be in pictures with him, as he was in 2007 with Edgar Davids. “That picture is still on my night stand”, says Clement, grinning broadly.
