Ajax present Hans Vonk

Ajax presented new goalkeeper Hans Vonk on the first press conference of the 2004-2005 season. The first goalkeeper of South-Africa singed a contract for one year and is the replacement of Sander Boschker.

Hans Vonk played at SC Heerenveen for eight seasons. When Ajax came calling, he hesitated at first. ,,I had to think hard about fulfilling this role. After being the first goalkeeper at Heerenveen for eight years I’ll be behind Bogdan Lobont and Maarten Stekelenburg at Ajax. The situation is different from last season with Sander Boschker. He thought he was second goalkeeper with maybe a chance of becoming first. Not so in my situation. Ronald Koeman and mister Van Gaal told me I will be the third goalkeeper.’’

Vonk has already discussed his new role at Ajax with the coach of the national team of South-Africa. ,,I am glad I still have the national team. The coach has said I will in principle remain the first goalkeeper.’’

The goalkeeper met his new teammates for the first time today. ,,It is a nice group and I managed to keep up with them during the conditioning training in the woods. We have played four matches with South-Africa in the summer. I played two of those matches, including the one last Saturday. So I am very fit!’’
