Ajax players back from holiday

Most of Ajax’s players are back from their holidays. In several groups, a total of sixteen players reported for duty for the annual intakes at de Toekomst on Monday. New recruits Theo Janssen and Derk Boerrigter were also present. Mounir El Hamdaoui was missing on Monday. He will join Jong Ajax on Monday, July 11.

Except for a few absent internationals, the 2010-2011 champions were on field again at de Toekomst. One day before the first public training of the season, the players underwent several medical tests. Jan-Arie van der Heijden was also present. The 23 year old midfielder has played the last two seasons for Willem II on a loan out basis. Another familiar face was defender Clayton Daniels. The 26 year old South African from Ajax Cape Town is starting his second internship with Ajax.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eyong Enoh are enjoying one more week of holidays, since they played interlands after the season was over. The trio will report to Ajax on Monday, July 4. The season will begin one week after that for Gregory van der Wiel, Nicolai Boilesen and Christian Eriksen. Due to the Dutch national team’s practice trip to South America, Ajax’s right back didn’t start his holidays until much later than his team mates. Boilesen and Eriksen also just started their holidays due to the European Cup U-21. Both Danes will begin the new season on July 11, like Van der Wiel. Nicolas Lodeiro is expected to report for duty later on. The Uruguayan is playing the Copa America with Uruguay. That tournament will be held from July 1 to 24, in Argentina.

Mounir El Hamdaoui will join Jong Ajax from July 11. A number of players from Jong Ajax are moving the opposite way: they will report to Frank de Boer’s team from Tuesday.

The first public training of the season will start on Tuesday at 10.30 at de Toekomst. The gates open at 9.30a.m. The new Ajax home jersey will be on sale at the Official Ajax Fanshop, next to the Amsterdam ArenA’s main entrance.
