Ajax involuntarily increase festive atmosphere in Munich

It was already a festive atmosphere in Munich because of the Octoberfests in Munich, but the local football club increased it. The victim were Ajax, who never had a chance against Bayern, who had not played this well this season. Super striker Roy Makaay struck three times and the Dutchman also gave an assist to Ze Roberto: 4-0.

It was a challenge, said Ajax coach Ronald Koeman this week. His young talented team against the experienced side from South-Germany. Ajax's average age against Bayern München was barely 23 years. With the German's team the youngest player was exactly that old. The average age was five years higher. And five years is a lifetime in football.

Tomás Galásek's return made no difference this match. Ajax played with only Mauro Rosales and Wesley Sonck up front, to reinforce the midfield. But to no avail. Bayern were better everywhere on the pitch.

In the 28th minute Bayern took the lead through the always dangerous Roy Makaay, who fooled Grygera and Heitinga to hit home gorgeously: 1-0. ,,Such a goal is even more painful, because we said that Grygera was supposed to cover a man and Heitinga was supposed to play behind him", said Koeman.

Ajax could have taken the lead when Rafael van der Vaart failed to connect with a cross by Wesley Sonck. After Makaay's goal Ajax lost their way. The team from Amsterdam seemed to make it to halftime without further damage, but Makaay struck again. From a free kick he headed it past Lobont: 2-0.

After halftime it all went sour for Ajax. One Dutchman had his day, though. Roy Makaay fired a penalty behind Lobont when his teammate was floored by the goalkeeper. And four minutes later Makaay found Ze Roberto who made it 4-0. Galásek was substituted for Mitea and after 65 minutes Koeman releived Heitinga who was having a terrible evening, for Julien Escudé. ,,I don't blame the coach for taking me off'', said Heitinga. ,,I think I was pretty bad today.''

Nothing went Ajax's way. After Juventus' win against Maccabi Tel-Aviv they trail both Bayern and Juve by 6 points. The second round of the UEFA Champions League can only be reached with a lot of luck.
