Ajax hit for seven in first friendly

Ajax deafeated amateur side DWV 7-0 in the first friendly match of the new season. Danny Blind's team scored all goals after halftime.

Coach Danny Blind let his three new signings start the match. Markus Rosenberg played centre forward with Edgar Manucharyan right behind him. Olaf Lindenbergh started as left midfielder, to move to central defender after halftime.

Rosenberg did not score a goal for his new team yet, but he came away satisfied after his first 45 minutes in the Ajax strip. ,,It was a good opportunity for me to get to know the system and my teammates."

After halftime, Blind fielded nine new players. Only captain Julien Escudé and Lindenbergh remained. The midfield, with Rasmus Lindgren, Steven Pienaar and Wesley Sneijder was a bit more offensive-minded and that resulted in the first goal after five minutes into the second half. Wesley Sneijder fired the ball in the left corner.

Suddenly the pace picked up and six minutes later it was 4-0. Yannis Anastasiou (twice) and Nicolae Mitea scored. Mitea's goal was a particular highlight.

Ajax then faded somewhat, only to come roaring back toward the end. Sneijder, Anastasiou and Mitea each scored another goal in the last ten minutes.

,,The first two weeks are mainly about the physiological aspect", Danny Blind said. ,,But of course you have to get a result in these sort of matches. In that respect the second half was better than the first. No conclusions can be made from today's line-ups, however.''

Julien Escudé wore the captain's band and will do so for the entire season. ,,That is a deliberate choice'', Blind confirmed. ,,Escudé took over for Tomás Galásek when he was injured last season and we left it like that for the rest of the year. Now he is first captain and Galásek second. Both are good guys with personality and stability and they can guide the team on and off the pitch. The language is not a problem, as they both speak Dutch.''
