Ajax extend contract with Sneijder

Ajax have reached agreement with Wesley Sneijder about an extension of his contract. The contract, which ran to 30 June 2007, has been improved and extended to 30 June 2009.

Wesley Sneijder has been under contract with Ajax from 2000 and he has played 116 matches in the first team. The 21-year old midfielder has scored 30 goals for the first team. He made his debut in Ajax 1 in the match against Willem II (6-0) on 3 February 2003. He scored his first goal in the cup match against FC Groningen (4-1). Sneijder won the national title with Ajax in 2004.
The popular midfielder has played for Ajax since 1992. He began in the E2-juniors and is an alumnus of the youth academy of the club. Wesley Sneijder has earned 20 caps for Holland, scoring 5 goals in those matches.
Sneijder was very pleased with his new contract. ,,Yes, I deliberately chose for Ajax. I still have the feeling that I can learn some more here and I have an Ajax heart. I have won one championship with Ajax and I want to win a few more. We can grow a lot with this team, so I am staying with Ajax.''
