Ajax expects new board of directors

Ajax’s Advisory Board is prepared, with management, to appoint two interim directors. Additionally, the Advisory Board intends to appoint a chairman of the current management. To that intent, a valid set of formal procedures has been initiated.

It’s expected that Martin Sturkenboom will join shortly as interim general manager, and Danny Blind as interim technical director. By July 1 2012 at the latest, Louis van Gaal will join Ajax’s management, as head of the management team.

Martin Sturkenboom (April 3, 1953, Utrecht) is new to Ajax. Sturkenboom comes from the software industry and has a long history in professional football management. He held functions in the in the Advisory Board and management of FC Utrecht, was chairman of the FBO and member of the KNVB’s Supervisory Board. He was a board member of the KNVB contract player fund CFK. He is currently working with the UEFA.

Sturkenboom: “Of course I’m very pleased with this development. I’ve been to many places in Europe with UEFA over the last two years. And when the topic is the Netherlands and football, people start talking about Ajax. I’m a true football man and I can’t wait to start. It’s clear that a lot needs to happen, but I’m not intimidated by that.”

Ajax’s management team currently consists of Henri van der Aat (commercial director) and Jeroen Slop (financial director).
