Ajax and Internazionale agree in principle about transfer Andy van der Meyde

Ajax and Internazionale have reached a principle agreememt about the transfer of Andy van der Meyde. Ajax awaits a signed bank guarantee from Inter to finalise the deal. Inter and Van der Meyde have not yet reached agreement, but are conducting talks. As usual, Ajax do not disclose financial details of the agreement.

Ajax's coach Ronald Koeman: ,,When this kind of clubs come calling and the player has the ambition to play for such a club, it is hard for Ajax to do anything about it. We expect the strength of the team not to diminish with the players we will acquire.”

Andy van der Meyde made his debut for Ajax in the league match against FC Twente (1-0 to Ajax) on November 1 1997. His first goal came in the league match against Sparta (9-0 to Ajax) on March 18 2001.

Andy van der Meyde won the national championship with Ajax in 1998 and 2002. He also won the Amstel Cup three times with the side from Amsterdam: 1998, 1999 and 2002. In 2002 he added the Johan Cruijff Shield to those trophies.

Van der Meyde played a total of 91 league matches for Ajax. He scored 19 times in those matches. His official matches for Ajax total 122 with 21 goals.

With Ajax 2 Andy van der Meyde won the national title in 1998 en 2001.

The forward from Arnhem was hired out to FC Twente in the 1999-2000 season. There he played 32 league matches, scoring 2 goals.

National team coach Dick Advocaat let Van der Meyde make his debut for Holland on May 19 2002. He has earned 4 caps and has made 1 goal for Holland. Andy van der Meyde also played 25 matches as a youth international, scoring 5 times in those.
