‘Ajax and embassy promote culture’

The Deputy Ambassador (local replacement for the ambassador) of the Dutch embassy in Jakarta received the Ajax selection at his house on Friday. Wouter Plomp opened his home to the coaches, players and other members of staff. Representatives of Dutch business in Indonesia’s capital were also in attendance at this special gathering.

Due to other commitments, ambassador Tjeerd de Zwaan was unable to attend this unique gathering. Plomp proved to be an outstanding interim host, among other things with an extensive buffet and drinks. “A warm welcome to the golden children”, the Dutch embassy’s second-in-command extended a welcome to his guests from Amsterdam. “You are following in the footsteps of the Dutch team and Mark Rutte, who were also here in the last year.”

After that, the national representative praised the Ajax players. “Ajax football is the highest form of art produced by Holland”, he said with a smile. After which, Plomp underlined his embassy’s purpose. “As an embassy, we’re here to help our fellow countrymen who have lost their passport. We are also here to help Dutch businesses. Moreover, we also help to promote Dutch culture.” The message was clear: especially in this last area, Ajax have often been of assistance.

Edwin van der Sar thanked Plomp for his enthusiastic words and offered him a nice gift. Ajax’s marketing director handed the Deputy Ambassador an Ajax jersey. “This has been a very nice welcome for us”, complimented Frank de Boer. “It also offers diversion in a training week. It’s wonderful to be received with such hospitality.”
