National champion Ajax A1 won de Supercup for A-juniors on Saturday. Cup winner NAC A1 was defeated 2-1 at de Toekomst. Ouasim Bouy and Rowendey Schoop scored for Ajax. Coach Fred Grim’s team has thus won its first prize.
A1 has thus made a fantastic start to the new season. They defeated their Aston Villa counterparts at de Toekomst on Wednesday (2-0, NextGen Series), and won their first prize of the season three days later. “We started the season well on Wednesday with a good, solid win against Aston Villa”, said coach Grim after the Supercup victory. “In terms of results, we followed that up nicely today. But we should still have gotten more out of NAC. We got through several times, but were sloppy in finishing. Our last pass often wasn’t precise enough.”
Cup winner NAC fouled Lesley de Sa in the first half. A goal came from the resulting penalty, by Ouasim Bouy. Rowendey Schoop doubled the score after the break. The Supercup win was never really in danger after that, although NAC made it 2-1 on a Ruben Hollemans goal during the last minutes. But the closing goal came too late to pose any real threat to the team from Amsterdam. NAC scored the goal with ten men, after substitute Jesse van Besooijen was sent off with a red card.
“We gave away nothing before the last phase”, continued Grim. “But the goal against in the last minutes was one of those moments. We need to prevent that sort of thing. NAC knew they weren’t the stronger team; they played a compact game. That made it hard for us to get through. But we finally managed to do just that, and we won the Supercup.”
