Ajax 2 out of Amstel cup after controversial moment

,,The stadium and the environment bring me no luck'', said coach John van ´t Schip after his Ajax 2 had been eliminated in the Amstel Cup by FC Twente. Akjax made it the home side more than difficult for an hour. But after an incident and a ten-minute pause Collins John scored from a corner kick which should not have been a corner, and the young Ajax players were defeated. John O´Brien made his comeback after being out for nearly eight months with an injury.

In the first half Ajax 2 were the better side in the match with the team that had beaten Feyenoord 4-2 last weekend. Jason Culina and Daniel de Ridder created quite some danger, but Ajax lacked the power to convert Ajax's superiority into goals. John O'Brien came close early in the second half, but goalkeeper Paauwe stopped the effort of the American defender, who made a satisfying comeback after being sidelined for many months with an injury. He left the game 20 minutes before the end, under the congratulations of his teammates.

O'Brien was replaced by midfielder Robin Muller van Moppes who could almost immediately return to the sidelines. After a light scuffle around goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, referee Luijten stopped the match after insulting chants by the home crowd. Ten minutes later the match was restarted but not with a throw-in, as was allowed to the home team before the break. Instead, FC Twente was awarded a corner kick, from which Collins john scored the only goal in the match. ,,If you stop the match, you have to know where you have to restart it'', said Van ´t Schip, who was Twente's head coach two seasons ago, afterwards in disbelief. ,,They were to throw the ball in ten metres from the endline. I expect other people with Ajax to take up this case and see what can be done about it.''
