Young Ajax, or actually Ajax 2 in the Amstel Cup, won in Den Bosch with 2-0 of the current top team in the Dutch First Division. In the first half Robin Muller van Moppes scored after eight minutes and Nicolae Mitea doubled Ajax's lead after five minutes in the second half.
Ajax 2 had six first-team players in the starting line-up: Maarten Stekelenburg, Nigel de Jong, Anthony Obodai, Victor Sikora, Jari Litmanen and Nicolae Mitea. The eleven were completed by Jerold Promes, Thomas Vermaelen in the heart of the defence, with José Valencia, Michael Krohn-Dehli and Robin Muller van Moppes.
FC Den bsoch were strong in the first half, but goalkeeper Stekelenburg kept his team in the game. All of a sudden, Ajax scored. Krohn-Dehli found Obodai, who reached Muller van Moppes with a subtle pass. The midfielder turned away from two defenders and scored: 0-1.
Nicolae Mitea was the star of the second half. The left winger made three good moves in a row. The third time he showed he can score too. The Romanian went by a number of defenders and hit home mercilessly: 0-2.
Ajax 2 were hardly bothererd after that. Robin Muller van Moppes, who scored the first goal, was happy with the win and with reaching the next round. But not only with that. ,,It was very special to play with Jari Litmanen. That was a dream of mine and now it happened. That of course is great. But I think we played well.''
Ajax 2 drew FC Twente, coach Johnny van 't Schip's former team, in an away match for the next cup round. Ajax 1 are to play at home against NAC Breda.
