Abdelhak Nouri extends with Ajax

Ajax has extended the contract of youth player Abdelhak Nouri. The youth international’s current contract had been effective until June 30, 2017. The talented midfielder’s new, improved contract is valid per July 1, 2015 until June 30, 2018.

Nouri (Amsterdam, 2 april 1997) is currently in Qatar with Ajax 1. He didn’t need long to make up his mind when he was offered the opportunity to extend his contract. “I was already so happy because of everything that’s happened recently”, said the midfielder, at the edge of the training field in Qatar. “And now this contract extension comes. I think I’ve developed well in the past year. I’ve played some good games with A1 in the Youth League, and before the winter break, I also trained a few times with the first team.”

Nouri isn’t yet thinking about making his debut in Ajax 1. “I just want to develop more, and improve my weaker points. My left leg could be better, and I want to be more of a leader. There’s enough work to do. But with the experience I’m getting now with the first team, my level can only get better.”

“Abdelhak Nouri is already known among the wide public that follows Ajax intensively”, said director of football affairs Marc Overmars. “There’s no better stage than Ajax for this type of talented player to show himself to the world. At the Youth League matches, bigger clubs see them, and that’s how these players become in demand. Big clubs like to shop at Ajax and we’ve already lost three players this past year. We’re very pleased that ‘Appie’ has the ambition to succeed with Ajax.”

Frank de Boer is also happy that Nouri is staying at Ajax for longer. “We need to nurture this type of talent”, said Ajax 1’s head coach. “There’s a great group coming up and Abdel is a part of that. Physically he may not yet be where he needs to be, but he compensates for that with technique, speed and football sense. It’s a pleasure to watch him, he always seeks the solution in football.”
The formal signing will take place later in Amsterdam.
