Bosz critical of Ajax, pleased with Neres

Ajax defeated Heracles Almelo by 4-1 on Sunday, but Peter Bosz wasn’t entirely satisfied.  He was critical of the defense.  “Although I think Heracles plays well, we cannot give away that many opportunities.”

“I was actually a bit afraid of this match, beforehand”, continued Bosz.  “With Thursday’s tough match behind us, and a first half that was much too weak.  There was no sharpness.  Fortunately, we did better in the second half.  It’s great that Matthijs de Ligt took charge there.  That gave the team energy.”

Bosz thought that the 4-1 win was on the high side. “It’s a rightful win, but somewhat misleading.  We gave away too many opportunities. Fortunately, Andre (Onana) played a key role yet again.  4-1 isn’t a bad result, in the end.  More importantly, we came out of this match with no injuries.  Next week, we don’t have two games.  Our job will be to be fresh again for FC Groningen.”

David Neres’ debut received some praise from Bosz.  “I think he made a decent impression.  He was consistent in the things he did.  In his ball receipts, first dribbles, and the decisions he made.  I enjoyed seeing that, but there’s no more to it than that.”
