Ajax loses first friendly to Anderlecht, concerns around Bandé

A very young Ajax team lost its first friendly game on Friday.  At the Toekomst Sports Complex, Anderlecht was too strong, winning 3-5.  Goals by Kaj Sierhuis (2) and an own goal were for the Amsterdam team.  Hassane Bandé’s injury was yet another setback, coupled with the loss.

The Ajacieds started off strong in the game.  Benjamin van Leer also had the chance to distinguish himself with several great saves.  The keeper met his match in Edo Kayembe, who struck from the left side in the sixth minute.

Injury Bandé

The friendly game was halted 5 minutes later due to what seemed to be a serious injury for Bandé.  The fast winger was on the receiving end of a hard tackle and was forced to leave the field by stretcher.  It’s not yet know how serious the injury is for the young player from Burkina Faso.

Even game

Erik ten Hag brought in Ché Nunnely in and took the oppportunity to address his team.  “Cover the back”, was his recommendation.  Navajo Bakboord, Sven Botman, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Boy Kempe paid close attention.  This tip ensured the defensive stability in an otherwise evenly matched game.

Ajax took advantage of their improved play at the end of the first half.  Sierhuis saw his header get turned away, the goal thief was quick on the rebound and ticked in the 1-1 goal.

Lead for Anderlecht

The Ajacieds were unable to continue on this positive trend in the second half.  Navajo Bakboord relinquished the ball, and Anderlecht striker Mohammed Dauda took over and coolly sent his shot into the goal.  Soon afterwards, Ryota Morioka brought the Belgian team into a bigger lead by making good on a rebound: 1-3.

Ajax fought back thanks to Sierhuis.  The goal thief received the ball on a heel pass from Ché Nunnely and knew just what to do with it.  With a hard shot, Sierhuis brought the score to 2-3.

Prolific final minutes

The final minutes of the game saw 3 goals.  Anderlecht’s 2-4 came from a goal by Knowledge Musona, who chipped the ball cleverly over Van Leer.  After that, an own goal by Kayemba (3-4) and Morioka (3-5) were the last ones of the game.
