Ajax and Everton FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Davy Klaassen to the English club. A sum of 27 million euro is estimated in the transfer. The attacking midfielder had been under contract with Ajax until June 30, 2019.
Klaassen was born on February 21, 1993, in Hilversum. The captain has played in Ajax’s youth academy starting in 2004, and made his debut for Ajax on November 22, 2011, in the Olympique Lyon – Ajax (0-0) UEFA Champions League match. He has played in a total of 181 matches in Ajax’s first team, and has scored 55 goals. With Ajax, he has won the national championship three times (2012,2013, 2014) and won the Johan Cruijff Shield in 2013. Klaassen was selected as Player of the Year in 2016.
Director of player policy Marc Overmars: “Of course, we would have liked to keep our captain for another year, but Davy’s 24 years old. He’s been in the A selection for six years, after coming up from our youth academy. In fact, he’s a good example of players who come from our own academy and make it to the first team. He’s grown and developed each season, and he’s now ready for the next step in his career. We thank him for his great years at Ajax and wish him all the best at Everton.”
