It looks like Lasse Schöne will be fit in time for the away game against Vitesse. ,,Schöne is back, it’s looking positive for Sunday”, Erik ten Hag said at the press conference on Friday morning.
Huntelaar an uncertainty
Schöne missed the match against ADO Den Haag due to an injury. The Dane has been back in training since Wednesday. Klaas Jan Huntelaar is also back on the training pitch on Friday: ,,Klaas Jan is joining in partly and we’ll just have to see if he makes the match against Vitesse”, says Ten Hag.
Who is replacing Frenkie de Jong?
Frenkie de Jong definitely won’t be playing Vitesse – Ajax. The 20-year old Ajacied injured his ankle last Wednesday and won’t be fit to play for several weeks. The manager is as yet undecided about his replacement. ,,Joël Veltman could move to the centre, and then Rasmus Kristensen could play right back. A second option would be Max Wöber, he could play Frenkie’s position.”
Is there a midfielder who could play central defender on Sunday? ,,Carel Eiting played that position in the youth, but I’ve never seen him play there myself.”
Ten Hag is full of praise for the upcoming opponent. ,,Vitesse are a tough squad that is extremely well organised. They’re a good sub top team.”
Can still win the national title
Ajax have to win if they are to stay in with even a slight chance of keeping up with the frontrunner. Last weekend they fell 7 points behind. Ten Hag: ,,And yet, I still believe we can do it. PSV are performing exceedingly well, but they can have an off day too. When they do, we’ll be ready."
