Huntelaar: 'Everything worked after halftime'

Klass Jan Huntelaar’s game against Roda JC was multi-faceted.  The striker played a mediocre first half, but scored twice in the second half.  The Hunter, with 9 goals, is now joint top-scorer of the club.

“The first half wasn’t that good”, said Huntelaar, post-game.  “Roda was fairly defensive, and then there's not much space in the centre.  I made a few mistakes myself.  It wasn’t my best half.  After that, fortunately, things improved.”

Focus on the second half
Huntelaar scored the 1-3 goal in the 74th minute, and the 2-4 goal in the 82nd minute.  He currently has as many Eredivisie goals to his name as David Neres and Donny van de Beek.  “I just tried to focus on the second half, and then everything fortunately worked.  That’s how it sometimes goes.”

Now that Kasper Dolberg is temporarily out of the rotation, Huntelaar has no worries about his centre forwward spot.  “But it’s better when everyone’s available”, he says.  “The bigger the selection, the more possibilities we have.  I’m just trying to concentrate on the games and I’m trying to get the maximum out of myself and the team every time.”

Three points, 2 goals; Huntelaar will travel back to Amsterdam happy.  “No, not to Amsterdam”, answered the alert striker.  “We’re staying in a hotel here tonight.”
