Ajax is still looking for its first win of the new year. Away at Feyenoord, Ajax lost 4-2. John Guidetti was the hero in de Kuip. Christian Eriksen and Dmitry Bulykin scored for Ajax.

A-junior Denswil extends contract


Ajax and Stefano Denswil have reached an agreement regarding the extension of his contract, which ran until June 30, 2012. The new, improved contract is retroactively effective, per January 1 2012, and runs June 30, 2015. There is a one-sided option in the contract for Ajax to extend for another season.

Ajax grabs one point in Alkmaar


Ajax partly redeemed itself for Thursday’s cup match loss during the away match against AZ. In a very windy Alkmaar, Ajax won a point on Sunday: 1-1. Fifteen minutes before time, Simon Poulsen placed an attempt by Nicolás Lodeiro into his own goal. Rasmus Elm put AZ in the lead in the first half. The point difference between the teams remains at five points due to the tie.

Historic loss on unique occasion


On Thursday, Ajax posted a historic loss on a unique day. In a stadium filled with kids, Ajax lost to AZ at home for the first time since 1981. The current Eredivisie leader was too strong in the round of sixteen KNVB Cup match, and won 2-3. Siem de Jong scored both goals for Ajax. On Sunday, Ajax will meet AZ again.

Cheering to the sound of K3


The Amsterdam ArenA was filled with almost 23.000 kids and supervisors on Thursday afternoon. It was a unique Ajax – AZ cup match (2-3). Banners with school names, screaming kids and music from Djumbo lent a unique atmosphere to the afternoon. Students from the Hofdijckschool from Oestgeest were among the lucky ones who attended.

‘We need to play like a champion’


Ajax resumes competition with a top match against AZ. In Alkmaar, the reigning national champion can bring the point difference with the current leader down to two points. Nicolás Lodeiro knows what Ajax needs to do in the city of cheese. The Uruguayan was on the bench for the first time in months last Thursday. He’ll need to fight for his spot.

Brazilians to AEGON Future Cup


The possibility exists that Palmeiras will pay a return visit to Amsterdam next spring. The São Paulo club’s U-17 team is one of the participants in the qualifying tournament of the Mongeral AEGON Future Cup. With host Desportivo Brasil, and most probably Fluminense and Gremio, the youth teams will compete on March 17 and 18 for a ticket to the AEGON Future Cup at Ajax.

Ajax’s training camp ends with a loss


Ajax’s training camp in Brazil ended with a 1-0 loss against Palmeiras on Saturday evening. In Pacaembu stadium in São Paulo, substitute Carmona scored the deciding goal of the practice match. Ajax returns to the Netherlands on Sunday in the late afternoon.

Brazilian press streams in for Marcos


The Palmeiras training complex felt like the setting of a media circus surrounding keeper Marcos. The 38 year old goalie gave a press conference to mark the end of this active career. The club legend drew a stream of reporters to the complex where Ajax is training this week.

Eriksen wins first prize of 2012


On day 3 of the training camp in Brazil, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen were tested on their knowledge about Brazil. A few days after a visit to the football museum, Ajax.nl invited the Belgian and the Dane for a small Brazilian quiz after practice. The result was a lively break from the serious preparations for the next half of the season.

De Boer introduces Ajax to Brazilians


About 50 reporters and guests of Mongeral AEGON were at a press conference in Pacaembu on Monday. In the stadium, where the opening match of the 1950 World Cup was played, Frank de Boer gave a presentation about Ajax’s youth development program. Jan Vertonghen, Gregory van der Wiel and Nicolás Lodeiro were also there for their baptism by fire with the Brazilian press.

Warm welcome at São Paolo airport


At the airport of summery São Paolo, Ajax literally and figuratively received a warm welcome at their arrival. After a sixteen hour journey, the Brazilian press was waiting for the Ajax team. Ajax coach Frank de Boer was speaking before television cameras directly upon arrival. Even on the other side of the world, the 112 time international is well known.
