Ajax A1 has started the new NextGen Series season on a high note. The finalist from the last two years (including the tournament’s first edition) of the ‘mini-Champions League’ defeated the Norwegian team Molde FK on Wednesday evening, 0-5. Viktor Fischer made his mark on the match by scoring three goals. The A juniors had watched their older Ajax colleagues on Tuesday evening as they played Borussia Dortmund in Germany at the highest level. The next day, it was A1’s turn. In the second edition of the ‘mini-Champions League’, Fred Grim and Kenneth Perez’s team faced Molde FK. Grim sent a strong team to battle. Lucas Andersen played in an Ajax jersey for the first time. “Andersen is a fresh player who is very eager. We played him on the left, and that created a lot of danger”, said Grim afterwards.
A1 experienced a good start to the match in Aker Stadion. The guests from Amsterdam had a great opportunity in the opening phase thanks to Lesley de Sa. The winger’s shot hit the post in the seventh minute. Molde was thus duly warned. It was a warm-up for De Sa, as he did score later , on a Viktor Fischer corner kick in the fourteenth minute: 0-1. After the opening goal, Ajax continued to apply pressure on the opponent, and especially created good opportunities. Newcomer Andersen started a good attack with Queensy Menig, but Menig’s shot went just wide. Success came once again in the 19th minute. Fischer curved the ball to land behind Opheim from a long distance shot: 0-2.
Molde’s keeper had an equally difficult time in the 25th minute. Opheim fouled De Sa in the box and the referee awarded a penalty kick to Ajax. From the spot, Menig’s shot went wide. After the penalty, Ajax continued to come up and put pressure on Molde. Fischer’s header went over the goal, and a few minutes later, the Dane saw his attempt go over after a beautiful one-two with Andersen.
Fischer scored in the second half again. He freed himself in the 65th minute and shot his second goal behind Opheim. ‘Man of the Match’ Fischer scored his third goal of the evening shortly before the end. De Sa made a good pass and Fischer finished perfectly. A few seconds before the final whistle, Fabian Spokslede scored the fifth Ajax goal.
With creativity, great football and beautiful goals, Ajax played fine game against Molde. “I gave the team a big complement”, said Grim proudly. “The thing I like the most is the way that everything came together. We had a brisk start, continued to pressure the opponent, and it was simply good football. This is definitely a great start to the NextGen Series. Our result is in, and now we need to focus on our upcoming match against AZ on Saturday.”
